The Dalai Lama

Posted in Uncategorized on October 23, 2007 by boothole

China was alittle ticked, because the U.S. confirmed our commitment to tibet when Washington “heaped honor and praise on the Dalai Lama”. I found The Dalai Lama’s speech to be incredibly enlightening in more ways than one. This was actually the first time a U.S. president got together with the Tibetan spiritual leader since he fled into exile in 1959. That in itself was interesting to me.

President Bush was talking to an audience of lawmakers and such when he said, “Americans cannot look to the plight of the religiously oppressed and close our eyes or turn away, and that is why I will continue to urge the leaders of China to welcome the Dalai Lama to China. They will find this good man to be a man of peace and reconciliation.”

Besides all that political business, I stood still in my livingroom staring at the tv, watching and listening to The Dalai Lama as he spoke to his American audience – and me. I loved his sense og humor. He chided himself when he said he was 72 and for the last 50 years he has been learning English. He said something like:  “I am 72… My English is like kindergarden…” He also poked fun at American polititions for the “little lies” they are famous for. Great stuff.

Am I the only one who watched this and thoroughly enjoyed it?
